|"In the glad morn of blooming youth
These various threads I drew,
And now behold this finsihed piece
Lies glorious to the view.
So when bright youth shall charm no more
And age shall chill my blood,
May I review my life and say
Behold my works were good."
Welcome to the home of Simply Samplers - which in April 1996 was the first Sampler site to appear on the Web!
This is the Website for all traditional needlework
sampler lovers. Here you may find all the information you ever need
on the history and design of samplers, with spotlights on particular
designs; the meaning of sampler symbols; pointers to other resources:
books, designs, designers and suppliers; guilds, classes, and sampler
projects; and links to other sampler and needlework sites. A search
engine is available to aid navigation, and visitors can also send virtual
greetings cards, find information on Band Sampler Round Robins, purchase
sampler charts, and discuss sampler related topics on our Sampler Threads Forum.
From Monday 11th to Saturday 30th October 2004, Witney Antiques will be presenting their twelfth annual exhibition "On This Fair Sampler Does My Needle Write" - the title is taken from a verse embroidered in 1838 by ten year old Mary Bishop. Over fifty samplers will be on show and the display will include exhibits from the important collection of Emma-Henriette Schiff von Suvero which was formed during the early years of the last century, and which has not been seen in public since it was formed almost a hundred years ago.
