The sampler made by Eliza Gibbons contains many references to the Bible
and other religious books, which are listed together with references to
their sources on this page.
- "Watch (prepare) therefore for you know not what hour your Lord will
come" (Sermon on the Mount Matthew chap. 24 v42)
- "Lord remember me when the comest into thy Kingdom" (Crucifixion -
Luke chap. 23 v 42 - Prayer Book Gospel for Maundy Thursday)
- "I'll praise my Maker while I've breath" (This is a Hymn composed by
Isaac Watts 1674-1748 - quoted by Charles Wesley at his death bed)
- "He maketh his angels spirits and his ministers a flaming fire"
(Psalm 104 v4)
- "In the midst of life we are in death" (Burial Service in Book of
Common Prayer)
